The Morning Rush

County budget discussions begin

Thursday, July 3, 2008

After strong thundershowers this morning, the rest of the day should stay fairly dry with only an isolated chance of showers for the rest of the day. Look for a high of only 81 degrees with an east wind 5-15 mph under mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies. In today's news: One murder charge dropped in connection with a June 7 shooting on Delaware Street: One of two felony murder charges was dropped on Wednesday against a Lawrence teenager charged in last month's shooting at a house in the 1300 block of Delaware Street. County budget discussions begin: County commissioners said they would spend Monday morning discussing what they prefer to do with the mill levy to support the 2009 county budget. Then they will spend the next few days meeting with county-supported agencies and department heads about their budgets. Collins lawsuit: Kansas University basketball star Sherron Collins has not shown "excusable neglect" in seeking to set aside a civil lawsuit judgment against him, according to court papers filed by a woman who sued him. A KU javelin great heads to the Olympics: Scott Russell , KU Big 12 Conference champion in javelin in 1999, 2001, and 2002, will have his shot at the Olympics when he travels to his hometown of Windsor, Ontario, for the Canadian Track and Field Olympic Trials on Saturday.
