- Maybe the Raiders should change their nickname to Bashers. Lawrence’s Legion baseball team will head into this weekend’s AAA state tournament in Pittsburg on an astonishing offensive roll. In their last six games, the Raiders have scored 108 runs, or a staggering 18.0 per game.

- The Lawrence Raiders had more than enough runs to defeat Atchison before any of their batters got out in the championship game of the American Legion Zone Tournament on Saturday at Ice Field. Lawrence scored seven of its 22 runs before an out was recorded in the bottom of the first inning in the Raiders’ 22-3 victory.

- “I believe in myself” is the motto for Barry Johnson’s 10-and-under Lawrence Phenix. “It all came from the Journey song ‘Don’t Stop Believin,’” Johnson said. “You can’t stop believing in what you can do and I want them to understand that.” The Phenix have been battling their way through this weekend’s North American Fastpitch Association’s “B” National championships.

- The 14-and-under Lawrence Phenix have suffered three tough losses in this week’s North American Fastpitch Association’s “B” National Championships. Over 60 teams from five states wrapped up pool play Wednesday at the Clinton Lake Softball Complex. The double-elimination bracket began Wednesday night.

- The softball field is a familiar place for Sydney Seratte and Dequesne Sprow, both 19. They have spent their last 10 summers playing softball and have been a part of the Lawrence Phenix since the team started nine years ago.
